Another successful project from TOA SE! Post Machining Processing:
This project focuses on automating the downstream processes of an existing machining center system. Currently, these processes are performed manually, including visual inspection of parts by operators, press-fitting an 8 mm dowel pin using an air hand tool, loading parts into a washer, and placing cleaned parts onto pallets. These operations are fully automated thanks to this machine.
In addition, this system utilizes a collaborative robot combined with an area scanner, enabling the cell to operate without a full safety enclosure. Operators can freely enter the cell to service the machining center, and when human presence is detected, the robot automatically switches to a safe speed.
Process Breakdown
1. Shuttle Process
Receives parts from the upstream machining center.
2. Washer
Parts are automatically transferred from the shuttle via an air cylinder and then cleaned.
3. Inspection Station
Thread inspection is performed using the Keyence LJ-S, and diameter measurement is performed using the Keyence TM-X with a resolution of 0.001 mm.
4. Press Machine
An IAI Servo Press is used to automatically press-fit dowel pins. Dowel pins are supplied via an automatic parts feeder, enabling fully automated singulation and feeding.
5. Outfeed Conveyor
Handles pallet changeover. Once 20 parts are loaded onto a pallet, it is automatically discharged, and an empty pallet is supplied.
6. Transfer Robot
A Yaskawa Collaborative Robot is used for material handling between each process, replacing manual part transfer.
